Sarah Ruhl is a playwright, essayist and poet. Her Pulitzer Prize finalist plays are The Clean House and In the Next Room. Other plays include Melancholy Play, The Oldest Boy, Passion Play, and Eurydice which was named one of the most significant plays of the last twenty-five years by the New York Times. Her books include Smile, a memoir, 100 essays I don’t have time to write (a NY Times notable book), and Love Poems in Quarantine (with Copper Canyon press). Her plays have been done on Broadway, off-Broadway, around the country, and internationally, where they have been translated into more than fifteen languages. She is a MacArthur “genius” fellowship recipient and has received a Susan Smith Blackburn award and a Pen America award. Originally from Chicago, she studied playwriting with Paula Vogel at Brown university. She teaches at the Yale School of Drama and lives in Brooklyn with her family.
